Singer, guitarist and songwriter known as the ‘Bluzman’ who worked with the best and released acclaimed albums
Sam 'Bluzman' Taylor, who died on 4 January, 2009, was a singer, guitarist and songwriter whose music and sonorous voice resonated throughout the history of the blues.
During the early sixties he wrote songs for the likes of Sam & Dave, Freddie King, Jimmy Witherspoon and many more, arranged music for Otis Redding, Tracy Nelson and the Isley Brothers, and played guitar for Joey Dee & The Starliters, originators of the Peppermint Twist.
During the 1970s he continued to work as a writer and producer and also released records under his own name which have become amongst the most sought-after by blues music aficionados.
Later in his life his music was sampled by several hip-hop artists
Richard L'Hommedieu of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame and a friend of Mr Taylor, said: "He was one of the last of the great bluesmen. He's created decades of wonderful music. It's a great loss."
